If Cantor Gaming from Las Vegas would have its way, playing blackjack while sunbathing in a swimming pool will soon become reality. Cantor Gaming wants to persuade the government of Nevada to legalize gambling via the same 21th century technology that allows us to surf the net, send e-mails, watch movies en listen to music. This would be a huge step for a state that only recently gave the nod for certain casinos to use handheld devices.
Gamblers within the state of Nevada are also allowed to bet on sports games by creating a casino account and downloading software on to their computers, mobile phones or pagers. This method of gambling does not violate with the current prohibition of online gambling, because it runs through a private WiFi network and no state borders are being crossed. There is still a lot that needs to be done fore introducing a similar system for poker or blackjack. ‘This requires a huge change for policy’ says Mark Lipparelli, chairman of the Gaming Control board.
Allowing online gambling could provide the state with much needed tax dollars. |
